Somebody DMs you: your track is “perfect” for their 40,000-follower playlist, and $50 buys a permanent add. If the offer guarantees placement for payment, stop: Spotify says that arrangement violates its terms<\/a>. The checks below help evaluate whether the playlist itself shows warning signs; they do not make a paid guaranteed placement compliant.<\/p>\n

First, the manual tells (thirty seconds on Spotify)<\/h2>\n

Date-added spread.<\/strong> Open the playlist, sort by date added. A living playlist shows adds spread across recent weeks. A scam playlist often shows bulk adds in clumps, or nothing recent at all \u2014 remember that 68.8% of playlists are dormant<\/a>, and paying for a slot on a dead playlist is buying a billboard in a closed mall.<\/p>\n

Followers versus artist mix.<\/strong> Tens of thousands of followers, but the tracklist is entirely unknown artists with three-digit stream counts? Real audiences that size accrete around at least some recognizable names. An all-unknown track list paired with an unusually high follower count is a reason to investigate further; it is not proof that followers were purchased.<\/p>\n

The curator’s footprint.<\/strong> One account, one suspiciously large playlist, no other public presence: caution. Our catalog analysis<\/a> shows that most curator records are associated with one playlist and that the median tracked playlist has 806 followers. Neither fact establishes legitimacy, but an unusually large playlist with no wider footprint deserves closer scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Then, the thirty-second automated check<\/h2>\n

Manual tells catch the obvious cases. For the subtler ones, paste the playlist URL into our free playlist integrity checker<\/a>. It blends six public signals \u2014 engagement coherence, curator activity, artist diversity, addition patterns, description signals, size sanity \u2014 into a 0\u2013100 score with a stated confidence level. Score bands, plainly: 75+ looks healthy, 55\u201374 mostly healthy, 35\u201354 proceed with caution, under 35 shows multiple risk patterns at once.<\/p>\n

Two honesty notes we insist on. The score is a risk assessment from public data, not proof<\/em>: legitimate playlists that were bulk-imported can score low, and sophisticated manipulation can score high. And a high score doesn’t mean the placement is worth $50; it means the public signals look healthier, which is still a different question from whether its audience fits your song.<\/p>\n

The decision framework<\/h2>\n

  1. Under 35:<\/strong> multiple risk patterns were detected. Do not pay for or rely on the placement based on the score alone; if your track was added without consent and the activity appears suspicious, use Spotify’s reporting process.<\/li>\n
  2. 35\u201354:<\/strong> treat the result as unresolved. Review the underlying signals, ask specific audience questions and decline if the uncertainty exceeds your risk tolerance.<\/li>\n
  3. 55 or higher:<\/strong> the public signals look healthier, but the score does not prove authenticity or value. Never pay for guaranteed placement; evaluate fit separately and prefer a merit-based submission.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The cheapest insurance in music marketing<\/h2>\n

    Sixty seconds of checking, zero dollars, and it screens for warning signs and inactive playlists. Make it a reflex: no placement conversation continues until the playlist has passed. A curator’s response can provide context, but it is not proof either way.
